About

My name is Megan Baker and I really really love social media.

It all started back when I was 14 and I logged onto Live Journal for the first time. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked.

I studied Communications/Journalism and Political Science at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY where I was a member (and eventual Executive Editor and award winning columnist) of the Cardinal Courier, Fisher’s student run newspaper.

I also dabbled in political writing with Bright Hall, an AOL project where they had college students from across the country share their perspectives on what they thought college students cared about. It has since ceased to exist, but it was my first taste of getting paid to write… and it was a great experience.

Since August of 2009, I’ve been working with City Year, an education focused national non-profit organization that hires 17-24 year olds to commit to a year of full-time community service in schools. I served in San Jose, CA for two years, first as a corps member at a middle school and then as a project leader working in recruitment. During my time in San Jose, I launched @CityYearSanJose and cityyearsanjose.wordpress.com.

I also had the pleasure of helping the team at Head Quarters launch the national blog and I now manage that and @CityYear (as well as all of our other social media properties) as the Digital Content Coordinator at HQ.

This fall, began to attend Emerson College in Boston to pursue a Master’s Degree in Communications Management.

The sole purpose of this blog is for me to share information, my perspective and hopefully a few laughs. It is not representative of City Year or AmeriCorps as organizations.
